Legends Night | Simon, Flutie To Be Honoured Saturday

Two of the most decorated receivers to ever wear the colours are set to join the BC Lions Wall of Fame Saturday evening.

For Geroy Simon, it is the perfect icing on the cake to an outstanding career with the club that saw him establish himself as one of the all-time greats at his position. A Canadian Football Hall of Fame inductee in 2017, Grey Cup champion with the Lions in 2006 and 2011 and six-time CFL All-Star, Simon was inducted to the Lions Ring of Honour after retiring as the league’s all-time leader in receiving yards.

Darren Flutie joined the Lions in 1991 and immediately demonstrated a knack for performing in the clutch. Look no further than the thrilling 1994 Western Final victory in blizzard-like conditions. Flutie had three touchdown catches including the winning score with no time on the clock. One week later, he was the holder on Lui Passaglia’s game-winning field goal against Baltimore in the 82nd Grey Cup.

Not to be confused with the Ring of Honour, which comes with the distinction of inductees having their jersey numbers retired by the club, the BC Lions Wall of Fame recognizes past players, coaches, teams, builders and contributors who were exceptional during their time with the BC Lions.

Every new inductee is recognized during a halftime ceremony. They receive a jacket, plaque and have their picture and bio displayed in the Wall of Fame Exhibit located outside the BC Sports Hall of Fame at Gate A inside BC Place. The late Bobby Ackles re-ignited the Wall of Fame in 2003 and spearheaded the building of the current Exhibit to replace plaques that were on display in the concourse.

In 2019, it was announced that every member of the BC Lions Ring of Honour would automatically be added to the Wall of Fame, meaning Simon joins a pretty exclusive group amongst the most elite players, coaches and builders in BC Lions history.

Congratulations to a pair of Lions legends!
