
BRENT JOHNSON COLLECTS CANADIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK KUDOS

(Vancouver) Following a close 40-34 win over the visiting Edmonton Eskimos last Friday night, defensive end Brent Johnson has earned Canadian Player of the Week honours for Week 7 for his outstanding individual performance in the second game of the home-and-home series.
Currently ranked second in the league behind teammate Cam Wake with seven sacks on the 2008 season, Johnson notched one tackle, two sacks and a forced fumble to help secure Friday’s victory. With 14 tackles, seven sacks, an interception and a forced fumble on the season to date, the 8-year Lions veteran was also nominated as a runner-up in the Defensive Player of the Week category.
The league also announced that defensive tackle Tyrone Williams and running back Ian Smart were recognized as Week 7 runner-ups in the Defensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week categories respectively. Williams recorded seven tackles and a pass knockdown on Friday night while Smart returned five punts for 51 yards and five kickoffs for 166 yards in the victory.
