The BC Lions Football Club announced today that non-import cornerback Davis Sanchez has signed a contract extension keeping him in orange through the 2013 season.
“Davis is a valuable member of our secondary and gives us a number of options on defence,” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. “He was a great addition last season and his experience and leadership helped us to grow as a team.”
Davis joined the Leos as a free agent signing in 2010, appearing in 15 regular season games during his tenth CFL campaign. The Delta, BC native recorded 37 defensive tackles, two interceptions and six pass knockdowns before being sidelined with a dislocated elbow versus the Edmonton Eskimos in Week 16. His 54-yard interception for a TD against versus the Eskimos on July 30th was the club's only pick-six on the season and he also registered a team-high nine tackles in the game.
“It was a tremendous honour to sign with my hometown team last year and I am equally pleased to sign this extension today,” said Sanchez. “We have a great combination of youth and experience in our locker room and I am excited to be part of a team that has the potential to win a championship at home in front of our fans this November.”
