FELIONS FOCUS...ERICA

Hey Lions fans!

I'm excited to be wearing Black-and-Orange for the first time this season!  As a rookie on the Felions Dance Team, I thought I'd give you some insight into a bit of my background - as you can see, dance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember!

Growing up in the lower mainland, I started my dance training at The Dance Connection when I was just 3 years old, and I continued training there until I graduated from high school.  In the years to follow, I graduated from UVic's Human and Social Development program in 2006 - during my fourth-year practicum at Oak Bay High School, I started a dance program for some of the students with special needs which was a very rewarding experience.  The program was so successful that I later started similar ones in dance studios in Victoria and Ladner!

While I was a student at the University of Victoria, I was a member of the UVic Dance Company for one season and I ended up directing the company for two more seasons to follow.  I also founded The Industry Dance Co., a hip-hop performance troupe currently based in Victoria.

Because I enjoy sharing my love of dance with others, especially younger people, over the past few summers I have taught dance at Camp Danbee, an all-girls sports camp in Massachusetts.  During the summer of 2007, I held the position of dance director at the camp and although I don't go back every summer for the sports camp, I still fly down there for a week each summer to volunteer at America's Camp, which was created for the children who lost their parents on September 11th, 2001. This summer will be my 6th year at America's Camp!

After a few years away, I moved back to the mainland and started working part-time as an educational assistant for the Richmond School Board.  I've never stopped training in all my years of dance am currently taking classes at Harbour Dance Centre in addition to dancing with SVS Style Crew.  I'm so excited for my first season as a Felion - it's been a great experience so far and I can't wait to see what's to come!
