LIONS ROUGH UP 'RIDERS ON SATURDAY NIGHT

REGINA - On a night when Saskatchewan fans honoured legendary quarterback Ron Lancaster with a moment of silence, BC kicker Paul McCallum kept the crowd quiet with six field goals as the Lions beat the Roughriders 27-21 Saturday night.
Flags surrounding Mosaic Stadium were at half mast and the letters RL were painted at the 23-yard lines, the number Lancaster wore from 1963 to 1978 as he quarterbacked the club to its first Grey Cup win in 1966. Lancaster died Thursday morning at age 69.
Players sported retro Riders jerseys and a No. 23 sticker on the back of their helmets. The game began with a moment of silence dedicated to Lancaster.
McCallum began the game by giving up a safety to give the Riders an early 2-0 lead. Riders kick returner Tad Kornegay coughed up the ball and was recovered by Lions safety Tad Crawford. The turnover set up McCallum's first field goal from 28 yards.
Roughriders quarterback Michael Bishop replied with a 25-yard pass to Weston Dressler and a 13-yard toss to Corey Grant before the league's leading rusher Wes Cates fumbled the ball on his first carry of the game.
The Riders defence forced the Lions to punt but Kornegay again couldn't keep his hands on the ball. BC's Rolly Lumbala picked up the loose ball, leading to a 17-yard field goal that gave the Lions a 6-2 lead.
Nearing the end of the first quarter, Bishop was picked off by Lions' defensive back Barron Miles. Bishop was replaced by Darian Durant on the next Roughriders offensive series.
McCallum kicked off the second quarter with a 50-yard field goal, his longest of the season.
Saskatchewan came back with an 18-yard TD by rookie Stu Foord to tie the game at 9-9.
The Lions responded with a 10-yard pass from Lions quarterback Buck Pierce to Geroy Simon to go into half-time ahead 16-9.
With the Lions up by 11, Foord gave the Riders hope with a 55-yard touchdown reception. But BC responded with another McCallum field goal to pull ahead 24-16.
Congi hit his first field goal of the night from 47 yards to pull within five points but it wasn't enough.
