(Vancouver) Just 18 days remain in the countdown to 2008 BC Lions Training Camp and the club introduced a slew of signings today after hosting free agent camps in Atlanta and Las Vegas last weekend. The new acquisitions include defensive backs Reggie Myles and Ahmaad Smith, offensive lineman Brad Kunz and receiver Eric Taylor.
“The level of talent at both camps was very high,” said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. “We’ve signed some guys that will definitely come in and compete for a spot.”
Myles is no stranger to the CFL after attending training camp with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2006. The former Cincinnati Bengal will also bring four seasons of NFL experience to Abbotsford in the hopes of making an impact on the Lions’ secondary. Myles appeared in 55 games over four seasons (’02-’05) for the Bengals and recorded 51 tackles. Seeing duty primarily on special teams and as a back-up defensive back, he led the team with 21 tackles in 2003 and was voted one of four permanent captains that season.
Smith spent four years at Tennessee State (’02-’05) appearing in 19 games and notching 10 defensive tackles and an interception.
Kunz played in 42 games over four seasons at Miami (’01-’04) seeing most of his playing time on special teams as well as action at multiple positions along the O-line. No stranger to big games, Kunz appeared in the 2000 Sugar Bowl and the 2001 Rose Bowl which the Hurricanes defeated Nebraska to claim a National Championship. He won the Albert Bentley Most Valuable Walk-On award in 2002, was an All-Big East Academic Team selection in 2003.
Taylor recorded eight receptions and 101 yards at Concordia College (Alabama). A versatile athlete who can also run the ball, he added 27 yards on 13 rushes.
