(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced today that import quarterback Tyler Emmert has signed with the club.
Emmert joins the Lions after one of the most prolific careers in U.S. college football history at Carroll College (Montana) which resulted in four consecutive NAIA national championships and a record-setting 13,979 yards of total offense for the Montana native.
Emmert, who measures in at 6'2&rdquo and 204 lbs led the Fighting Saints to an undefeated season in 2005 and ends his career on a 21-game winning streak. Carroll College was only the second school in NAIA history to win a national championship four straight years. Emmert, meanwhile, earned Offensive Player of the Game honours in three of the four title games.
“To say Tyler comes to us with an impressive football resume would be an understatement,&rdquo said GM and head coach Wally Buono. “He's a winner and you just can't have too many of those. I expect him to come in and compete very well with our three quarterbacks and I look forward to seeing him in action.&rdquo
In his senior season alone, Emmert passed for 3,317 yards on 258 completions and rang-up 32 touchdowns. The talented quarterback established his third-highest efficiency rating last year at 162.4; his best coming in 2003 (186.1) after completing 194 of 255 passes for 2296 yards and 20 TD's. The lofty numbers earned him 2005 Rawlings-NAIA National Football Player of the Year honours; his second such achievement, having previously won the award in 2003. He finished his amateur career with an amazing 51-3 record as a starting quarterback.
A dedicated student, Emmert is a three-time Daktronics-NAIA Academic All-America Scholar-Athlete selection and received the A.O. Duer Award as the NAIA's top student-athlete in 2004. Majoring in Civil Engineering and Business Administration and adding a minor in Mathematics, he is a member of the National Honor Society and the American Society of Civil Engineering. A four-time Academic All-Conference pick, Emmert earned Dean's List recognition eight times.
