
Lions invite local juniors to training camp

(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced today that receivers Josh Boden and Ben Wilson of the South Fraser Rams as well fullback Dave Simpson of the Okanagan Sun and offensive lineman Lorne Plante of the Vancouver Island Raiders have been invited to the club's rookie camp which kicks-off in Abbotsford on Thursday, May 18.
This will be the second Lions camp for Boden who enjoyed a fantastic 2005 debut with the Rams. The 6'1'' 206-pounder was honoured for his outstanding season with an unprecedented four BCFC major awards, taking home the Most Outstanding Offensive Player, Most Outstanding Receiver, Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and Rookie of the Year honours. Josh was also selected to the All Canadian Team at receiver and honoured as the Canadian Junior Football League's Rookie of the Year at the Banquet of Champions in Montreal.
Wilson, a Ram team-mate of Boden will make his first trip to a CFL camp. The 6'4'', 225-pound prospect has demonstrated tremendous versatility having played both quarterback and receiver this past season. In addition to passing for 647 yards and three TD's over four games, he also notched four receptions for 59 yards and a TD in two others.
Simpson a rugged fullback from the Okanagan Sun enters his fifth and final season of junior eligibility in 2006, and makes his first trip to a pro camp. Despite missing the first half of the 2005 season, the 245-pound 21-year-old Vernon-native still managed to rush for 387 yards and 5 touchdowns on 40 carries.
Plante, a 6'7'', 305-pound tackle spent a year at the University of Manitoba before coming west to play for the Raiders. This will be his first experience at a CFL camp and he'll enter his third season on Vancouver Island if he returns to the Raiders.
