Lions take LB Jay Pottinger in first round.

The BC Lions announced today that they have selected Jay Pottinger from McMaster University with their first pick (2nd overall) in the 2006 CFL Canadian College Draft.

The 6'2&rdquo, 243-pound native of Whitby, Ontario will turn 23 years-old this June and comes with an impressive football resume. The two-time All-Canadian was named the OUA's Outstanding Defensive Player in 2004 and 2005. Last season he led the Marauder defense with 38 tackles.

“We were very impressed with Jay as both a player and a person,&rdquo said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. “He plays a very difficult position with skill and intelligence.&rdquo
