The Vancouver Sun's Mike Beamish reports that the injured left ankle of Lions quarterback Buck Pierce appears to be healed earlier than was originally thought.

Saturday's game versus Calgary could be solely about bragging rights with no effect on playoff seeding. The Stampeders, 12-5, have clinched first. The Lions, 11-6, will either end up second at 12-6 or second at 11-7 or third at 11-7, if they lose and the Roughriders win this week. Whatever happens, the Lions will have to overcome another team's home-field advantage once, maybe twice, to get to this year's Grey Cup game in Montreal on November 23rd.

"I still need to be sharp and I still need to play," Pierce said, making a case of himself to play against the Stampeders. "Whatever happens in that Thursday game [Toronto-Saskatchewan] I still feel I need to play. I'm the starting quarterback."
